Toads laid low

Mar 17, 2021 | Diary, Family, Fine Art Prints, Larmer Tree Studio, Wildlife

I was torn tonight ‘twixt a Bat group meeting and a Barn Owl meeting, both on Zoom – Or – going out on Toad Patrol to rescue frogs and toads from the local village road.As there were 18 toads killed prior to me getting to the village last night, I knew that toad rescues had to be my priority.

The ponds are set in a valley, at either end of the main road through the village.  As I stepped out of the car I was shocked at how cold it was down there. The temp. had suddenly dropped  to 2°C. and the little toads knew better – they were not going anywhere! I didn’t see one..and by the time I returned home, both zoom meetings had also finished….:(  ‘The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.’

As I have no toad photos tonight, I thought I’d share the frogspawn that has recently appeared in our pond at home.
