5C is the min. temp for frog and toad activity, and as the roads were damp from earlier rainfall, and the temperature 6C it was time to Toad Patrol. As I dodged the traffic and walked up and down the road between the village ponds I could feel the temperature quickly dropping. There were no toads to be seen; the toads obviously knew best, so we returned home – only to find five needing to be rescued on the track, including this lovely pair.
