No Mow May

Apr 29, 2023 | Family, Wildlife

Years ago we planted a meadow patch in the garden and later included a small area for a variety of wild grasses. Both looked great and worked extremely well. Last year we decided to give the whole garden to nature: to let it do its own thing. We mowed a few paths through the long grasses to different areas and to sit on the lawn in the sunshine, watching the golden grasses swaying in the breeze was so blissful and so relaxing.

Another unexpected benefit was the appearance of a hare with her leverets, plus more vole, tawny owl, insect and bird activity. Also, the garden coped far better with the extreme drought conditions. It was a win-win situation and I highly recommend it no matter what size your garden.
