No Toads Tonight

Feb 5, 2022 | Diary, Wildlife

An interesting Zoom meeting today. Caught up with fellow Toad Patrollers, and Froglife team. In certain areas, a few toadies are already on the move. All amphibians follow the same route, regardless of what gets in their way which, unfortunately, often leads to them crossing busy main roads.  As in many areas across the country, a toad vs. traffic scenario and inevitably the toads come off worse.

I thought it might be too early in the season, but as it’s not that cold tonight plus it started to rain…I decided I ought to take a look at the stretch of road twixt two ponds that I monitor.  We drove down to the village and there was no sign of any frog, toad, or newt activity, which was appreciated as it meant we could return home.  We are now back home and relaxing in front of a cosy fire. 🙂

Could you spare your evenings to help out the Toads on Roads project? Patrols desperately need your help during the spring migration to get amphibians safely across roads. Find out more on our website: https://www.froglife.org/what-we-do/toads-on-roads/
