The Pharaoh Hound, Kelb tal-Fenek, is an ancient breed that originated in Egypt, and is also the national hound of Malta. It is a hunting dog and its native name means ‘Rabbit dog’.

I met the lady owner of this handsome hound at a dog show in the late 1980’s. I enquired if I could portray her dog and she very kindly gave me permission along with a small black and white photo.  I have included a colour background to signify the tan/chestnut colours of a Pharaoh Hound, plus the arid desert areas from which it originated.
