Jack Russell Terriers is one of my first pastel pet-portrait commissions. In my new venture as a Wildlife and Pet Portrait artist, I also drew the portrait for myself and would display my artwork at various venues: craft fairs and exhibitions. My Jack Russells have attracted lots of attention over the years helping me gain many commissions. I have also met many friendly pet owners and lovely pets.

The history of terrier-like dogs dates back to ancient times. Pliny the Elder, in his Natural History, wrote that when the Romans invaded Britain in 55 B.C, they were surprised to find small dogs that followed their prey into their den or lair.  Similarly, Marco Polo reported that of all the hunting dogs of the Great Khan, the most prized were the little terriers.

The first true terrier was described in 1570 by the English physician John Calus of Cambridge. From that time on canine history has been filled with stories of the terrier: its deeds, magnificent temperament, and the beautiful varieties that have proliferated throughout the world.
