Labrador Retriever Original Art
Original Painting Medium: Pastel
After completing a series of labrador paintings, drawings and pastel portrait commissions for a labrador breeder and enthusiast, I decided to portray this labrador, in pastel, for myself. I have since portrayed a Black Labrador Retriever and through my Labrador artwork support the Labrador rescue society.
Native to Newfoundland, this breed was first brought to Great Britain in 1800 by English ships coming from Labrador. Weighing 55-75 pounds (24-36kg), it is a short solid dog growing to approximately 22 inches (55-57 cm) high. With an intelligent expression, robust head and powerful neck the labrador is also equipped with an excellent sense of smell. The hair is dense and hard, without waves and with a water-resistant undercoat. There are three colour forms: black, liver and yellow. I
The labrador is lively, affectionate, lovable and works well retreiving for its master. Working in marshes and water it is also used to help fishermen draw in their nets.
From the sale of my 'Black Labrador' pencil drawing and my pastel 'Labrador Retriever' Greetings Cards and Fine Art Prints, a donation is given to the Labrador Lifeline Trust.
