Many moons ago, I purchased a greetings card for a friend; the card contained a photo of a Native American Indian with a few words of wisdom written beneath. I very much liked the character and features in the face of my American Indian and decided I would like to draw him.  Having never portrayed a person before, his portrait was a challenge I thoroughly enjoyed.

I was also keen to find out who he was, when and where he was born, the tribe to which he had belonged, and so, began my quest.  Special thanks to George Horse Capture, Daisy and the staff from the NAA, Smithsonian Institute in America for their kindness and help in putting a name to my portrait.  I learned that my American Indian was a Cheyenne Chief, born in 1841 and called Wolf Robe.  Thanks to Chief Wolf Robe I met some lovely people and it was a really interesting journey.

George, was known to his family as Grandpa Braids, and I was truly sad to learn that George Paul Horse Capture,  born in 1937 ~ native name Nay Gyagya Nee ("Spotted Otter"), passed away in 2013.
